I’m with you on the croissants at every corner & brownies begging to go with a cortado. I live at the top of Broadway Market but have talked myself into eating a banana for breakfast with creamy yoghurt (Oatly do a healthy version) top it off with nuts or seeds and honey, Golden Syrup or maple syrup. It’s like eating banoffee pie without the rubbish x

Hiya! I've been wondering how your reading is going!

Sugar isn't food. Not in a cake, cookie, or croissant aux amandes. Nor is it food when it's in a smoothy. When I'm living high stress, I want the "bad" stuff. Now. All of it.

I like to eat food too much to like smoothies. So I go in the same direction as these photos here. Colour, texture, contrast, flavourful, variety. I love Ottolenghi's real food recipes, too.

The best design? Our own human design.

So a make-up artist friend told me she swears by smoothies of spinach, blueberries, a dash of oat (or other milk) and then a sprinkle of chia or linseed or flax seeds. If you want to make it thicker/more filling - half an avocado. She says it improved her skin. I did it for a while and it really does help I think. Expensive but maybe on a par with good cakes x

I think I saw a similar pair of Gucci shoes on Vestiaire because I have a saved search for red Gucci Loafers and sometimes other styles sneak in, if I can find them again I'll send the link!

Also I'm beginning to think that the whole sugar/spots thing has something to do with female hormones or something like that. My boyfriend eats tons of sugary stuff and his idea of a healthy drink is Apfelschorle (basically apple juice, water and sugar) but he has the smoothest skin while I can already feel my skin breaking out from looking at that Ottolenghi work of art.

I'm living in my Comptoir des Cotonniers / Uniqlo navy cords and think I'll buy a couple more as I'll wear them for many winters to come. So good. Get a Nutribullet for bloody sure.

Oh and I often make overnight oats and chia pudding mixed with cacoa powder, add a tablespoon of Greek yoghurt and honey in the morning - heaven. Or hot porridge with cacoa and almond butter, feels indulgent but very healthy!

I also need to cut down on my baked goods. Imagine how much weight I gained in CPH 🇩🇰 during the pandemic when there was nothing to do but celebrate the opening of YET another bakery?! 🤣

Save the bakery for weekends only and go for Bircher is the week instead? Sweet and satisfying with a protein hit. Lovely read and can see the effort that goes into these post ♥️

Sorry to hear about your floor, that must be so disappointing. I totally agree with you about Gilmore Girls. I binge watched it 15 years ago when I was recovering from surgery; I bought myself the DVD box set! They totally spoilt it for me with the ‘Year in the Life’. The acting felt wooden, characters had moved on, the Rory storyline with Logan was awful and some of it was problematic. Sometimes, good things should be left alone.

Agreed on Gilmore Girls. Seinfeld got it right when they left us wanting more

I have a smoothie maker that also doubles as a soup maker, if that makes you feel better about counter space!

Another great one Eleanor; always on the hunt for THE coat and the Zara canvas things such a good idea. I always read to the end… can’t say that for much.

Thanks for the newsletter, new subscriber! As for the sugar content (speaking as a reformed sweet-tooth) I HIGHLY recommend the work of The Glucose Goddess Jesse Inchauspe: her Insta, YouTube, book & podcast appearances. Her work changed my life & habits!
