There’s so much I could comment on in this newsletter but the Arome croissants are preoccupying my mind. How long have they been selling them for? How did no one cotton on? Did their entire staff think the ‘chocolate’ in the name was an elaborate con for the pastry-buying public?! 😂

Now I'm obsessed with those Penelope Chilvers boots - I feel they really could make my world a better place of I had them on my feet. Also, that is insane about the chocolate and banana croissant, and really feels quite cynical, or at least doesn't sit well - if your employees are so uninvested that they don't care that you seem to be deliberately selling a misleading product, plus ridiculously over-priced coffee, your values are a little skewed.

Plus I can't wait to share the baby owl indìformation with everyone I know!

That pastry 🥐 story has me laughing so hard 😆 you ARE DOING THE LORD’S WORK! 🤣 I love how the staff have just been telling people it’s a banana almond croissant as if that’s normal?! Hilarious. Your pastry detective skills are second to none.

Haha, that story kills me. I was in London for work and refused the premier inn breakfast in favour of Arome, and my goodness, that miso apple danish is one of the best things I’ve eaten in my life.

I just can’t quit them. An apple a day etc 😅

I really enjoy your Substack! Here's a favorite smoothie recipe: a handful of spinach or kale, a date or two, a frozen banana, a few tablespoons of almond butter, and coconut water. It's really delicious.

Just a tiny note to say, I did an internal happy dance when I saw your email drop into my inbox this evening. I devoured it and I am in awe of Meta Coleman. Oh, the shelf!!!

Oh I have so many things to say! Arome! What the??? That's hilarious and ridiculous and outrageous all at once.

Thank you for the beautful edit which has made me realise I need nicer things and inspired me to keep getting rid of so much average stuff I do have. Very much appreciate the coffee cup rec as this feels like one my husband might actually use.

Also on Neal's Yard: Tommy Banks just had a load of pies stolen from a van and thieves broke into Land's chocolate factory in Bethnal Green and took loads of chocolate. Heartbreaking.

And how good was Holy Carrot? I went for my birthday and we ordered all the big plates. Loved them all. Also ordered all the desserts (except ice cream/sorbet) and was less enthused... Bottarga is on the list for the cheesecake...

And I went to Liba today because of you! Thank you! I tried 7 of the 8 because I am greedy. I have not managed to eat anything in the 8 hours since. I'll be telling everyone in tomorrow's newsletter. Even though I was planning to skip this week and now this comment is almost it's own Substack. Sorry.

1. Radcliffe’s ornaments! I love them! Thank you for sharing that link.

2. I am disappointed to hear Arome did not reward your (a) discerning tastebuds and (b) sense of civic duty with some sort of special badge or card, entitling you to free *chocolate* and banana croissants for life (or a year).

3. Glad you’ve joined us in watching The Traitors. Probably the only reality gameshow I can get behind, because unlike others masquerading behind ‘finding love’ etc. this is what it says it is: people lying, others telling the truth, and everyone pointing fingers at each other. Magnificent stuff.

I really just love your writing. It’s like a lovely cosy chat with a pal: ‘did I tell you about this croissant?’. Thank you. Also good lord I want all of it xx

Dear Eleanor…..I nearly peed my pants when I saw that you’d mentioned Kayleigh Radcliffe’s ornaments. I found her by accident two years ago on Etsy and ordered about 5/6 pieces. I instantly fell in love with her designs on-line but was flabbergasted when I rec’d them. They are exquisitely made and presented. I too implore others to check her designs out….to have such original pieces on the Xmas tree is sheer joy.

Btw….re Traitors…oh yes! So glad you’re on board now. I’ve watched the other versions of English speaking countries ….the U.S. (sigh), Oz (delicious), NZ (loved the contestants so much it made me want to visit) ….Great piece, as usual…☺️👏🏻

the pastry debacle made me lol so much... as a nit-picker, emailing them to update their misleading description is exactly the kind of thing i would do and i'm amazed how often these things go unnoticed.. i actually work nearby and banana and chocolate is my ideal combo, wonder if they have started adding the chocolate yet?!

i bought an electric toothbrush finally about a year ago and it has been life changing, however only realised last week that the buzzing sound it makes every now and then is the timer !! which has been life changing again!
