I always love your suggestions, and the mixed price points – nothing makes me feel more like a loser than the impression that everyone else is wantonly buying whatever strikes their fancy, and I spend a lot of time on here wondering what the hell everyone does for a living and where I went wrong. But most of all I love your writing. You’re a natural writer, and believe me, as someone who edits for a living, that’s rare.
Thank you so much! It's funny how much I struggle with seeing myself as a writer. Becoming one was never intentional, so there's a lot of imposter syndrome there! And don't worry, I ogle a lot of nice things and I do think there's value in refining your taste/learning what you really love but I hardly buy anything new. I save up for one or two bits and then I just lust after the rest. Everything is so expensive these days isn't it – even from the high street!
I shop in exactly the same way – consuming vast amounts of images of lovely things I can’t have to narrow it down to the one or two lovely bits I can have, then using the rest as inspiration for plugging the gaps with thoughtful high street buys. It’s so refreshing to see someone acknowledge this is what most of us have to do. There are fashion writers I love on here but by the end of the “what I’m ordering for spring post” I’m thinking, that’s my annual rent you’ve just spent… And in my experience people can either write or they can’t, and you most definitely can!
Also the last time I went to the cinema a couple sat next to us and pulled a full rotisserie chicken out a back pack. That was my last trip to the cinema….
The knitted vest! Gorgeous! I'm also really sensitive to noise and have gone through some many different earplug brands, including a set of Loops. They're fairly good at blocking out sound but very uncomfortable to sleep in - which is when I need them most, as I live above a group of loud students. The earplugs that have saved my life are Sleepeze Remedies from Amazon, which are made from a silicone material that mould to your ears. So comfy I forget I'm wearing them and they block out the music/shouting/door slamming/banging from downstairs. Really recommend!
So good isn't it! Might treat myself to the vest before it sells out. And lord, sounds like you have it much worse then me with noise! I love silicone earplugs for sleeping – they make such a massive difference! Foam is totally pointless.
Loop earplugs changed my life. Yes you need them. They are also so beautiful and cool so I never feel ashamed to have them in any social situation. I use mine at home with my family and at dance class and they work really well for both. Thank you for your inspiration!!!
That New Yorker article also took me for a spin. It felt like a movie and nothing like a real life story!
I bought some Loop earplugs because I have a hard time concentrating on conversations (especially in another language) if there are a ton of other noises and voices around me. I haven't been able to wear them for more than 30 seconds because they amplify all of the sounds of my insides–breathing, heartbeat, etc. It's too creepy!
I have a set of quiet and a set of experience from loop and i love them both. I struggle with loud sounds and use the quiet for sleeping and the experience for loud neighbours. I bought the experience originally for a stadium concert and oddly i found they made everything louder.
My fave and most versatile dress was a Cefinn sale purchase a year or so ago. I don't love everything they make but when they do something well, they do it very well!
The Loop Earplugs are great btw! Not a complete shut-down from the world but similar to the noice-cancellation of my AirPods I’d say. So a great option if you don’t want to wear your headphones & more comfy.
The basic Quiet ones :) And same as the comments above, love the mix of high-/low-price points and your style in general. Really great shares and recommendations!
Aren't they so cool?! I'm going to give it another month to try and track down one of the older pairs with different coloured stripes and if I can't, I'll go for the green!
Re cinema noises - your local, the Barbican cinema, does have the most civilised audiences I have ever encountered: not a natter nor a chatter nor a crisp packet crackle or even a crumple nor a loud popcorn munch, ever to be heard.
I thought this too until a row of teengers chatted and ate crisps the entire way through Little Women and in a different screening, the guy next to me sat with his legs open so wide he was almost in the splits. I might give it another try soon on £6 Mondays...

That necklace! May need to order it myself 🫶🏻

I cannot stop laughing 😂
Pulled it out of a backpack, in an Odeon Luxe. The irony 😂

Very much agree with everything Lindsey Johnstone said and would just add that this fashion edit is absolutely gorgeous
That's really kind, thank you!

I’m going to order them so I’ll report back 😊
Green knitted vest ✅!
That tank top is so lovely
Loved all of this!

Oh interesting! Dying to try the earplugs now!
I just looked up my receipt and I had the “engage” pair, if that helps!

This is so useful, thank you!
Cefinn is good, i rate them

I can really see you in that YMC vest! 💚
Me too! Us redheads are just destined to wear green!

This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for! Which type did you go for?

custard-fiend over here! will have to get down to The Audley...or else see you in the Humble Crumble queue x
I've got Humble Crumble cracked btw. My method is as follows:
- Never go to the Borough Market branch
- Pre-order online for collection
- Going on a weekend before lunchtime means no queue at Spitalfields
- Going on a week day pretty much any time means no queue at Spitalfields
- If you asked for a little pot of extra custard (there isn't enough space for a decent custard quantity imo), they'll usually give you one for free
So many fab things and many from places I forget to look at!
Oh thank you! I've already bought myself one thing since I published it so I'm trying to avoid looking now 😂
Love the Tischtennis sneakers!
Aren't they so cool?! I'm going to give it another month to try and track down one of the older pairs with different coloured stripes and if I can't, I'll go for the green!
Oh fun! I’ll be looking for a pair too. Let’s share our findings!
